Yuma, Arizona!  Is Hot!

One of the fastest growing cities under one million in the US!  May 2009, our Riverfront project in Old Town is complete with the addition of a new Hilton Hotel!   The mall, within a mile or so of Old Town, is expanding rapidly.  I am still waiting for Neiman Marcus and Ralph Lauren to show up!

So, Yuma, Arizona has the rare opportunity, for a "small town" to gather together artists from around the world and across borders.  The Art Museum, on Old Town's Main Street, opened an exhibit in their gallery April 5, 2008 for about 40 local artists.  They do a wonderful job of bringing art and art classes to Yumans.

What We Do

Art Studio 87 & 1/2 sponors an "Art Affair" about every 6 months.  Artists who live in Yuma, Phoenix, San Diego & those who stay for  the winter's gentle clime from bitter cold, come together to enjoy  the arts.  The artists talk, laugh, share & encourage all around them.  What energy they bring - it happens because the artists are here!  They also add some of their art to the Art Studio 87 & 1/2 gallery in Old Town Yuma!

Art Studio 87 & 1/2 has an art gallery in Old Town Yuma, Arizona where art lines the 11 foot tall walls - to the top! 

 Some art in the gallery is by local artists.  Some pieces in the studio's art gallery come from well known artists, such as Kadir Nelson. One oil painting, in the studio's art gallery was painted in the late 1800s.

Every so often I will have a special selection of artists and their work on the Art Studio 87 & 1/2 website.  I must get an artist's permission to place art on the studio's online gallery, therefore it doesn't change often.

What's New?

• The last Art Affair was held in Yuma, Arizona's Old Town on the corner of West 4th Street and 1st Avenue - February 16, 2008 - with more than 100 attendees! 
• The next Art Affair was to be in late June or July 2008 but the 100 foot wall was still down.  Before we have another one the wall must be fixed.  It has now been down since December 17, 2007.  It is too dangerous with the pipes sticking out of the ground!  Call or email for more information.
• Wall update - Jan 18, 2009.  Contractor left with 13 feet to finish.  Mortgage company has the check and will not release it until we settle with the contractor - Good Grief!
• If you wish to participate please let me know ahead of time so we can meet and discuss art placement.
• After each Art Affair new art pieces go into the studio's art gallery and we lose some art to sales.  That is good!

• I do not want to alarm you but art in Arizona is not all western.  The art is as varied as the people who have become an integral part of this unique Arizona town known as Yuma!
